by Aaron Nix
It was the second day of the Christmas Tournament and the Knights were in the semifinals. Tonight's game would feature a Macon basketball icon and the good ole' lovable underdogs we know as the Knights.
These 6-2 Eagles and our 9-3 Knights proving to be a competitive matchup. From tip-off, the Knights scored back and forth consistently, the quarter ending in a 12-11 stint of great hustle and defense.
The second quarter began- high intensity and competition stifling the Tatnall Square Academy gymnasium.
Sophomore guard and leading scorer Gerald Williams came off the bench and fit into the scheme perfectly. Shot after shot seemed to falling- the problem was the fact that Stratford's shots were falling as well. Junior Bo Wright and Gerald Williams were connecting from the outside like nobody's business. The quarter ended in a manner quite like the previous- separated by one point. The Knights went into the half, tied.
In the second half, the Knights came out, guns blazing. While Stratford's offense was going for them, the Knights kept up. The full court press keeping the game close, the third quarter ended with the Knights outscoring the Eagles, 14-16.
In the beginning of the fourth, strategy came into play. The Knights employed the 3-2 defense and a superb display of offense even Coach Krzyzewski would be proud of. While the game went on the scoring was again, almost evenly matched, resulting in a 12-10 advantage. The quarter ended with a grand total of 52-52. That's right, the Knights were going into overtime.
With 4 minutes of heavy defense the Knights pulled out the tough win, resulting in a 58-54 win. The Knights had done it. Dominion Christian would be seen in the main event. The underdogs from Marietta had made it to the big dance.
