Dominion Girls and Guys Dominate Competition
At Augusta
by Zak Metz
The Dominion Christian track team traveled down to Augusta this past
weekend to compete in the 4th annual Border Bash who combines many
South Carolina schools against Georgia schools. The meet started off
with some pretty impressive field events with David Mcmichael pole-vaulting
an impressive 9ft and securing 2nd place. Next, state champion in
the high jump Bianca Rucker, held up to her record, jumping a record
breaking 5’6 ft and gapping 2nd place by at least a ft. After
a two hour lunch break the teams resumed the meet, refreshed and ready
to run starting off with an impressive girl’s 4x100m race where
the girls slaughtered the competition by at 75m gap. With the sun
starting to scorch down, the boy’s 110h started and junior Justin
Hipps got the 1rst place victory. After that the girl’s 800m
started and junior Rachel Cooper set a school record at 2:40 and secured
a promising 2nd place. Soon after the guys 800m started and sophomore
Zak Metz led the distance team to a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finish
earning the team 22 points. Many minutes later the girls 4x400m relay
went out and took an early lead but the kept it resulting in a win
and verifying their dominance in relays. At the end of the day the
guys got first place by a gap of 50 points and the girls took a strong
second.
