Dominion Girls win at Riverside
by Zak Metz
At 2:00, Dominion track left on its war path, on the way to Riverside.
This particular meet boasted 7 teams in attendance. After the 2 ½
hour drive up to Gainesville, the track team rustled off the bus onto
the rubber track. The meet soon started with the renowned field events,
and Hillary Davis pole-vaulted for an impressive finish bringing Dominion
much needed points. At 5:00 the 3200m started and Daniel Riess and
Zak Metz ran a strong 2nd and 3rd place. As the meet progressed the
girls 4x100m team led by anchor Bianca Rucker finished first, gapping
all other teams by at least 25m. The 110m hurdles came next and Justin
Hipps glided his way into 2nd place. After dominating the 4x100m,
Bianca Rucker blazed the 100m and tied for first (don’t ask
me how). Next came the 1600m where Nathan Bennett smoked all competition
and took off to take first place and the school record (previously
held by Gabe Greaves) with a 4:44. After many other events came the
notable 4x400m race where the girls ran an impressive 1rst place and
the guys came in a respective 3rd place finish behind George Walton
and Riverside. After the points were tallied the girls discovered
that they solidified a 1rst place finish and the boys finished in
a strong third place.
