2007 State Track Meet

Last weekend the Dominion Christian track team traveled down to Albany, to compete in the GISA state meets. The bus departed from Dominion at 8:00am on Thursday, filled with anxious and nervous athletes ready for the upcoming days of competition. As the athletes approached the stadium, the student athletes thought of their of their upcoming events and preliminaries, as the day went on many of our athletes ran well but only a select few qualified: Matt West, Chul-Won Chae, Justin Hipps, Rita Chhabra, Susanne Johnson, and Bianca Rucker. The only final event finally came, and Nathan Bennet and Zak Metz came to the line for the 1600m. They ran well and accomplished a good race coming in third and 8th place. The next day came and the field events were done and many accelerated in their events, but the only two people to place were Rita Chhabra and Bianca Rucker both finishing respectively in their own events. The only final event left of the day was the 800m and Chris Svideskiss and Zak Metz were placed in lanes. As the race progressed Zak Metz went for it and ran incredibly to place 4th with a 2:04.23, the other Dominion contender Chris Svidesskis also did very well and finished 8th with a 2:09. The final day of the meet arrived and that morning the 3200m was run and Nathan Bennet finished 3rd with a pr and school record. As the day went on many runners did well but the only finishers were as follows: Bianca Rucker 1st place in the 100m, 200m, Rita Chhabra 4th in the 400m, and 1st place in the 300mh, Justin Hipps 6th place in the 300mh, Susanne Johnson 3rd in the 100m and 5th in the 200m. As the day progressed the 4x400m relays happened and the girls finished with a 4:15 coming in 3rd place and the guys got a 3:41 coming in 6th place. In the end the girls cleaned up and snuck in for a 2nd place finish and the guys picked up 8th place.Overall the meet proved to be a great learning experience for the young track team and a building block for a strong team.
